Israel Decides to Sever Ties with UN Agencies and Their Subordinate International Organizations

Khaberni - The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced (Tuesday) that Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has decided to immediately sever all communications with a number of United Nations agencies and international organizations. At the same time, Saar has ordered his ministry to immediately study the continuation of cooperation with other organizations and to consult with the relevant government ministries when necessary.

A statement issued by the Israeli Foreign Ministry said that the decision came after a review and discussion following the withdrawal of the United States from dozens of international organizations. The statement also mentioned that Israel has severed its relations with a number of organizations mentioned in the American statement, and that additional decisions will be taken after a comprehensive review and in-depth discussion.

The organizations with which relations have been cut in the past include the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, with whom Israel severed communications in June 2024; the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), with whom cooperation was suspended as of July 2024; the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), with which Israel has had no relations for years.

In addition, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that it has decided to sever relations with other organizations, including the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, the United Nations Energy Agency, and the Global Forum on Migration and Development.
