Death of Two Children in Gaza Due to Severe Cold

Khaberni - Five Palestinians, including two women and a girl in Gaza City, were martyred on Monday evening due to the collapse of a wedding hall used as shelter for the displaced in the chalets area west of Gaza City due to strong winds.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip reported that two children died due to severe cold, bringing the total number of child fatalities since the beginning of the winter season to 6, while the civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal warned of catastrophic consequences of a polar air depression starting Tuesday, threatening about 1.5 million Palestinians.

The Palestinian civil defense announced that a young man, Saqr Al-Dib, died on Tuesday afternoon from his injuries caused by falling stones from the destroyed Al-Saraya mosque minaret, while he was inside his tent in Gaza City.

Mahmoud Basal, a spokesman for Gaza's civil defense, reported three deaths due to partial collapses of buildings on the verge of falling, resulting from the current weather depression affecting the area.

He warned that the situation is very dangerous, and buildings are no longer safe refuges for residents amid continuous rainfall and winds.

The civil defense spokesman appealed to international bodies and the international community for swift action to provide support and protection to the affected civilians.

Additionally, a number of Palestinians were injured this evening, Monday, due to the collapse of a residential building damaged by previous Israeli occupation bombing in Al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City.

The collapse occurred due to strong winds associated with the weather depression, resulting in injuries to several citizens, who were immediately transported to the hospital for treatment, with no immediate information regarding the nature of the injuries.

Various areas of the Gaza Strip have witnessed repeated incidents of house and building collapses during the recent weather depressions, which were damaged by Israeli occupation bombardment during the aggression, amid worsening damage due to heavy rain and strong winds.

In the same context, the death toll from the Israeli occupation aggression on the Gaza Strip has reached 71,412 martyrs and 171,314 injured since October 7, 2023, while some victims are still under the rubble and on the roadways.

Since the ceasefire came into effect on October 11 last year, the number of martyrs has risen to 442, while the total injuries have reached 1,236, in addition to the recovery of 688 bodies.
