Supplications for Winds and Storms Beloved Supplications to Seek Mercy and Repel Calamity

Khaberni - Concurrent with the rainstorm, there is a renewed search for supplications related to winds and storms to seek safety, tranquility, and repel harm.

Amid the storm, many resort to supplication seeking protection and peace. Such harsh weather conditions make one feel vulnerable to the whims of nature, and supplication becomes a refuge that brings peace to the heart and reaffirms trust in God's mercy and ability to repel adversity.

The supplication of the winds is amongst those that carry meanings of hope and reliance on God, directing the heart towards seeking goodness and blessings, and reminding of the Creator's greatness in managing the universe. The Fatwa House confirmed that the prophetic tradition advised increasing supplication during the blowing of winds, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say when the wind blew: «O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, the goodness within it, and the goodness it is sent with, and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil it is sent with» reported by Muslim.

Regarding the legal stance on cursing the winds, it is reported in a noble hadith by Abu Dawood and Ibn Majah from Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: «The wind is a part of God's mercy, it comes with mercy and it comes with punishment, therefore, when you see it, do not curse it, ask God for its goodness, and seek refuge in God from its evil». This is a clear direction to deal with natural phenomena through prayers, not despair.

It is recommended during strong winds that a Muslim insists on supplications that protect oneself and family and ask for safety; including saying: O Allah make it mercy and not punishment, O Allah make it winds not storm, O Allah make it fertile not barren.

It is also desirable to frequently supplicate for family and offspring, ask God for well-being and protection from all evils, pray for forgiveness and mercy, and that He does not make worldly life the greatest concern or the extent of our knowledge, and that He protects people from the evils of calamity, diseases, and the surprises of night and day. Supplication during times of winds and storms remains a gate of closeness to Allah, combining hope and awe, offering the heart tranquility amid the turbulence of nature and the fluctuating circumstances.
