Khaberni - The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced the death of two children due to severe cold, which raises the number of child fatalities since the beginning of winter to six.
The Civil Defense in Gaza announced three fatalities in partial collapses of buildings damaged by the war due to the weather depression hitting the sector.
Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesman for the Civil Defense, said that a new polar depression hits Gaza, and the tragedy of this depression will be greatly catastrophic for many families, adding that it threatens the lives of more than 1.5 million citizens now living in tents, in a pitiable reality.
Bassal also expressed his fear of the expected outcomes of the depression, saying that the weather condition is difficult, and will not end except in a real tragedy; we may record victims, and perhaps witness collapses or flooding of citizen's tents.
He renewed his appeal to the international community and humanitarian organizations about the necessity of "realizing the magnitude of the disaster and taking responsibility to end the suffering, and provide what is necessary for civilians to preserve their human dignity".
On the other hand, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, announced on Monday that more than 18,500 people from the Gaza Strip, including 4,000 children, are still in urgent need of medical evacuation.
Ghebreyesus called on more countries to open their doors to patients from Gaza and to resume evacuation operations to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
He mentioned that the organization supported, during the last week, the medical evacuation of 18 patients and 36 companions from the Gaza Strip to Jordan, to receive specialized care including treatment for severe injuries and other serious conditions and illnesses.
