Khaberni - Turkish actor Can Yaman responded through social media platforms regarding his sudden arrest during extensive drug-related investigations in Istanbul, strongly denying the charges against him.
Details of the arrest and rapid release
Turkish authorities detained Yaman during a broad security campaign targeting 9 nightclubs in Istanbul, where the Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office conducted a coordinated operation involving nightclub owners, managers, and individuals linked to drugs found at some venues.
The actor underwent blood tests at the Forensic Medicine Institute upon the instructions of the prosecution, before authorities quickly released him without imposing any judicial monitoring measures, allowing him to leave Turkey and return to Italy the following day.
Can Yaman's message to the Italian media
Upon his return, Yaman, speaking from Rome, addressed the Italian media in Italian, criticizing the Turkish media coverage, and directed his statement to Italian journalists, saying: "Dear Italian press, it is well known that the Turkish press has always treated me harshly, and this is not new, but you are not like that."
The actor added: "At a time when the police detain many celebrities and conduct extensive investigations, do you really believe I would be walking around nightclubs carrying prohibited substances? If this were true, even slightly, I wouldn't have been released so quickly and wouldn't have been able to return to Italy the next day."
The extensive security operation
The operation was part of a wider campaign targeting drug networks in Turkey, where data from the Turkish Ministry of Health indicates that 2.6% of the population over the age of 15 has used illegal substances at least once, which equals about 1.74 million people.
The court arrested 19 individuals linked to a luxury hotel in the Bebek district, while others including Yaman and actress Selin Gurgozel were released as authorities continue their investigations into cases involving drug use facilitation and other accusations.
