Khaberni - The CEO of "Arab Weather," Mohammad Shaker, announced that the kingdom is affected by a weather depression classified as "fourth degree," which is the first of this advanced level since 2023.
Shaker explained, through "Roya," that this depression is characterized by exceptional rainfall intensity and high wind speeds, expecting that the rainfall in some areas will exceed 100 mm, which necessitates the utmost caution and alert.
A highly effective and slowly moving air front
Shaker indicated that the depression is currently centered west of the island of Cyprus, accompanied by a high-effect cold air front moving very slowly towards Jordan.
It is expected that the influence of this front will extend to the capital Amman and the northern provinces around midnight, where these regions will witness continuous and intense rainfall for a significant period, leading to a remarkable rise in water levels and the formation of floods.
Shaker emphasized that the peak of rainfall intensity will be at dawn hours, a timing that may facilitate the agencies concerned to deal with the depression due to the absence of pedestrians in the streets, but he warned that the extent of rainfall will expand in the morning hours to include wider areas, confirming that the depression is distinctly rainy and its high classification does not necessarily mean a widespread snowfall.
Snowfalls and accumulation possibilities
Regarding the chances of snowfall, Shaker clarified that the peaks of the high mountainous areas in Jerash and Ajloun will witness intermittent snow showers on Wednesday morning, as may the areas of Sweileh, Jebiha, Dabouq, and around the University of Jordan witness mixed snow and rain showers.
He affirmed that the chances of snow accumulation in these areas remain "very low" due to the intermingling of rain with snow, which weakens its density.
As for the south, Shaker mentioned that the mountains of Tafilah will face snow showers with the possibility of some accumulation, although it is not significant.
Even though the depression will move away on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the weather will remain extremely cold, requiring citizens to use heating safely and stay away from the courses of floods and valleys.
