Khaberni - Real Madrid officially announced today, Monday, the dismissal of their coach Xabi Alonso, hours after losing the title of the Spanish Super Cup.
Real Madrid lost the Spanish Super Cup to their traditional rival, Barcelona, with a score of 3-2, yesterday, Sunday, in the final held in Saudi Arabia.
Real Madrid issued an official statement saying: "Real Madrid announces that by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to end his career as the first team coach."
The statement added: "Xabi Alonso will continue to be loved and admired by all Real Madrid fans, as he is a legend of the club and has always embodied its values.. Real Madrid will remain his home."
The statement concluded: "The club extends its profound thanks to Xabi Alonso and his technical staff for their efforts and dedication during this period, and wishes them all the best in this new stage of their lives."
It is worth noting that Alonso took over the leadership of Real Madrid last summer, following the departure of the Italian Carlo Ancelotti to lead the national team of Brazil.
In the same context, Real Madrid immediately announced the successor to Alonso, who is Spaniard Alvaro Arbeloa.
Arbeloa has been coaching the Castilla team since June 2025, and has spent his entire coaching career at the Real Madrid Youth Academy since 2020.
He led the youth team (A) in the 2020-2021 season, achieving the league title, then the youth team (A) in the 2021-2022 season, and the juniors team (A) from 2022 to 2025.
During his time coaching the juniors team (A), he achieved a historic treble in the 2022-2023 season (the league, the King's Cup, and the Champions League), in addition to the league title in the 2024-2025 season.
As a player, Alvaro Arbeloa was part of Real Madrid during one of the most successful periods in its history, where he wore the club's shirt between 2009 and 2016, and participated in 238 official matches.
During that period, he won eight titles: two Champions League titles, a Club World Cup title, a UEFA Super Cup title, a Spanish League title, two King's Cup titles, and a Spanish Super Cup title.
With the Spanish national team, Alvaro Arbeloa was part of a historic era, winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and two European Championships (2008 and 2012), participating in 56 international matches with Spain.
