Khaberni - The Cabinet decided in its session held on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, to approve the justifying reasons for the system of conditions for granting and renewing the license and the fees collected for granting or modifying it for the year 2026; this is based on the provisions of the prevailing Public Electricity Law, taking into account the legislative necessities for the specified activities.
This step aims to standardize and regulate the procedures for granting and renewing licenses for electricity sector activities and the associated fees, and to update the legislative framework to keep up with technological developments and newly introduced activities in the energy market.
The system project comes in the context of enhancing transparency and simplifying the procedures of service provided to investors and operators, by merging the licensing conditions and fees into a single legislative text that is easy to apply and ensures the stability of procedural pathways, and maintains the same levels of existing fees without resulting in any increase in current fees imposed on licensed entities.
The system project adopts stimulating mechanisms, including zero fees for newly introduced activities that have a positive impact on the electricity system, such as renewable energy storage and independent transport activities, supporting investment and innovation and keeping up with the requirements of the energy transition.
It also aims to ensure the integration of electricity networks with renewable energy resources, promote technical and financial governance, and prepare a balanced legislative environment that supports the sector’s growth and preserves the rights of all relevant parties.
