Somalia Announces Cancellation of All Agreements with the UAE Including Security and Defense Accords

Khaberni - The Somali Cabinet announced on Monday evening the cancellation of all agreements made with the UAE, including security and defense cooperation agreements.

The Somali news agency stated that the Council of Ministers of the Republic, after a thorough evaluation of recent circumstances and by virtue of its constitutional powers, has terminated all agreements with the government of the United Arab Emirates, as well as governmental agencies, related entities, and regional administrations within the Federal Republic of Somalia.

This decision applies to all agreements and cooperation in the ports of Berbera, Bosaso, and Kismayo.

The Cabinet also cancelled all existing agreements between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Government of the United Arab Emirates, including bilateral security and defense cooperation agreements.

The agency stated: This decision comes in response to reports and strong evidence of malicious steps that undermine the country's sovereignty, national unity, and political independence, all of which contradict the principles of sovereignty, non-intervention, and respect for the country's constitutional order, as stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations, the Charter of the African Union, the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Charter of the Arab League, to all of which Somalia is a party, and also, oppose the will of the Somali people who have made their stance clear by rejecting these malicious acts that undermine the country's independence and unity.

The agency pointed out that accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is directed to officially inform the government of the United Arab Emirates of these decisions, work with them on their implementation, and also inform international and regional partners such as the African Union and the United Nations, emphasizing the country's sovereign rights and constitutional powers.
