Syrian Security Announces New Operations Against Armed Cells in Homs Latakia and Damascus Countryside

Khaberni  - Syrian Security today, Monday, announced the execution of security operations it described as successful against cells and armed organizations in Homs, Latakia, and Damascus countryside.

The Ministry of the Interior stated that the internal security units conducted a preemptive quality operation in "Al-Wurud neighborhood", in the city of Qudsaya in the Damascus countryside.

It explained that this operation targeted an outlawed armed group posing a threat to security and stability.

The ministry added that the operation resulted in the arrest of 3 individuals involved in planning armed activities.

In a related matter, the ministry stated that the internal security in the Northern Countryside area of Latakia managed to arrest leaders of a terrorist cell, known as "Lieutenant Abbas" and affiliated with "Brigade Shield of the Coast".

The highlighted leaders include Jaafar Ali Alya, known as Lieutenant Abbas, along with Rashid Ghaith Alya, and Ali Abdul Sattar Khalilov, according to the ministry.

The ministry added that preliminary investigations proved the cell's involvement in targeting internal security points and the army in Latakia province.

The investigations also revealed the involvement of Muqdad Fatiha in financing this cell with financial and logistical support, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.

"A Tight Operation"

In Homs, Syrian authorities arrested those involved in the bombing of the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in December, according to an official announcement on Monday.

The Syrian News Agency (SANA) quoted an unnamed security source saying "the internal security forces arrested those involved in the terrorist bombing at the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in Homs".

It is noted that on December 26th, an explosion occurred inside the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in Homs, killing 8 people and injuring 18 others.

Preliminary investigations at the time indicated that the explosion was caused by explosive devices planted inside the mosque.

The French Press Agency quoted the Syrian Ministry of the Interior on Monday about detaining two individuals from the Islamic State organization, accused of being involved in the mosque bombing in a predominantly Alawite neighborhood.

The interior stated in a statement "Our security units in the province of Homs… executed a tight security operation during which they arrested Ahmad Atallah al-Diab and Anas al-Zarad, affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization and responsible for the bombing targeting the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood".

Serious Escalation

Moreover, the Syrian Army's Operations Authority announced today, Monday, that it observed more armed groups reaching the deployment points of the SDF in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, after the clashes in Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods ended on Saturday.

The army described this move as a serious escalation, indicating that any military movement by these groups will be met with a fierce response.

It clarified that the reinforcements spotted in the eastern countryside of Aleppo included fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party and remnants of President Bashar al-Assad's ousted regime.

Conversely, the SDF denied the accusations from the Syrian Ministry of Defense of pushing military formations of its forces on the Deir Hafer front in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.

They stated there were no unusual movements or preparations in the region, adding that the gatherings that took place were limited to civilians from the people of northern and eastern Syria welcoming the wounded from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods.

The events in Aleppo erupted last Tuesday when SDF forces from their controlled areas in Ashrafiyeh, Sheikh Maqsoud, and Bani Zeid neighborhoods launched attacks on positions and facilities in Aleppo, resulting in deaths and injuries, in addition to the displacement of 165,000 people.
