Khaberni - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan, on Monday, confirmed that it will not be able to distribute the winter cash assistance to refugees during the year 2026, due to the limited available funding.
The spokesperson for the commission, Yusuf Taha, said that the cash assistance program depends on the level of funding available, noting that all services provided by the commission are completely free of charge, with no fees or financial amounts charged for providing assistance or services, according to the kingdom.
Taha added that the commission recognizes the importance of the winter assistance for refugees, but due to the limited funding this year, it will not be able to provide this assistance.
He pointed out that the refugee commission received about $115,037,596 from the total financial support last year, which represents 31% of the total funding required, leading to an estimated funding gap of $257,799,380, or 69% of the total funding needed.
Taha explained that the commission’s budget needs for the current year are estimated at 280 million dollars, to maintain services for those choosing to stay in Jordan, and to support the voluntary return to Syria.
The spokesperson emphasized that the decline in funding does not mean a decrease in the need to support refugees, which remains very significant and urgent.
