Saudi Arabia Completes Departure of Hundreds of Tourists Stranded in Socotra

Khaberni - Saudi Arabia, through Jeddah International Airport, completed the departure procedures for hundreds of foreign tourists stranded on the Yemeni island of Socotra (east of the Gulf of Aden), following the arrangement of their travel bookings to their countries, after their flights from the same island were disrupted due to escalating security and political events in the east and south of Yemen.

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued today, reported the completion of the transfer of the stranded foreign tourists from Socotra Island to Jeddah, western Saudi Arabia, via 4 flights conducted by Yemen Airways. The number of transferred tourists was about 609 tourists of various nationalities, in coordination with the relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia, and direct communication with the embassies of the tourists' countries.

 

The Yemeni government also confirmed the completion of the transfer of all stranded tourists to Jeddah International Airport, following the departure of the last evacuation flight of Yemen Airways from Socotra Airport. The government appreciated the scale of the direct Saudi facilitations that made the humanitarian operation a success.

 

Yemen Airways, on the 7th of this month, operated the first flight to transfer the stranded foreign tourists from Socotra Island to Jeddah. Mohsen Haidara, the Deputy General Manager of Yemen Airways for Commercial Affairs, noted the efforts of the leadership of Yemen Airways in arranging the transfer flights for the stranded.
