Khaberni - A Russian tourist was killed and 21 other people were injured due to a violent collision between a tourist boat and a small fishing boat in Thai waters off the Phi Phi Islands near Phuket this morning.
The Russian Consulate General in Thailand confirmed to the "Novosti" agency the death of the Russian national, Elizabeta Starykh, age 18, while information about the other injured is still being verified.
According to the Thai newspaper "Thai Rat", the accident occurred at 09:00 AM local time (05:00 Moscow time), where the tourist boat was carrying 52 foreign tourists including Russians, in addition to three Thai crew members.
The collision resulted in the tearing of half of the front part of the tourist boat due to the force of the impact, leading to fatalities and injuries totaling 22 people, including 19 foreign tourists and three members of the Thai crew.
The injured received first aid at Phi Phi Island Hospital before some were transferred to hospitals in Phuket for necessary treatment, with assistance from Phuket Provincial Administration.
Social media users circulated video clips from the accident site while the Thai authorities continue their investigations to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident.
