Khaberni - In its ongoing effort to enhance its scientific and research presence in local and international forums, the College of Pharmacy at the university participated in the Applied Health Sciences Conference (AHSC 2025), which was held at the Mövenpick Hotel – Dead Sea, under the theme "Excellence and Collaboration in Healthcare", attended by a select group of academics and researchers specialized in health and medical fields.
The College of Pharmacy was represented at the conference by: Dr. Sara Nasereddin, the Assistant Dean, Dr. Esraa Malkawi, the Head of the Pharmacy Department, Dr. Nusayba Al Qutaish, and Dr. Hala Al Habashneh, Dr. Dhikrayat Mardas, faculty members in the College of Pharmacy, who presented quality research contributions reflecting the advanced level that Amman Arab University has reached in the fields of scientific research and applied health sciences.
Dr. Esraa Malkawi, Assistant Professor in Medicinal Chemistry, presented a research paper titled "Novltex: a new class of antibiotics with potent activity against multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens" which discussed her development of a new antibiotic characterized by high effectiveness in combating bacteria resistant to traditional antibiotics, which are among the most significant global health challenges, showing through her paper the preliminary results of this discovery with the distinctive ability to inhibit growth of bacterial strains that current treatments have failed to combat, making it a promising candidate for developing more effective and safer drugs. The research presented has been patented in recognition of its uniqueness and belongs to the category of innovative antibiotics (Novel Antibiotics), which enhances the university's position in supporting pioneering scientific research and innovation.
Dr. Sara Nasereddin, Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Technology, also presented a research paper titled: "An Ex-Vivo Study of the Human Nail Barrier: New Research Angles for Developing Innovative Antifungal Drugs," which addressed the importance of understanding human biological barriers in designing effective drug delivery systems, with a focus on the physiology and structure of the human nail, noting that nail fungal infections account for approximately 6 million infections globally, in the absence of effective treatments so far, highlighting the importance of this research in developing innovative treatment solutions.
Dr. Nusayba Al Qutaish, Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Technology, in her research paper, reviewed the stages of developing polymer-based targeted nanocarriers PLGA to enhance the delivery of an anticancer drug for the treatment of thyroid cancer, where the study demonstrated the role of these carriers in enhancing selective targeting of cancer cells, thus increasing drug concentration at the tumor site and reducing its impact on healthy tissues, thereby enhancing treatment efficacy and minimizing side effects.
In the field of pharmacology, Dr. Hala Al Habashneh, Assistant Professor in Pharmacology, presented a research paper titled "A Role for Endothelial PKGIα in Pulmonary Artery", where she discussed the results of her research on the role of vasodilation mechanisms and their relationship to pulmonary artery hypertension.
This participation reaffirms the vision of Amman Arab University in supporting applied scientific research and enhancing its academic and research presence both locally and internationally, solidifying its status as a leading educational institution actively contributing to the development of the health and pharmaceutical sector through research and innovation.
