The post, presented under the title "Simple Diplomatic Solution," gained extensive reach, and many considered it an expression of public concern and political satire about the seriousness of the American proposal regarding the acquisition of the island, given Trump's controversial history with the idea of "buying Greenland".
This interaction coincided with a real political and military escalation, after "The Telegraph" reported that Denmark would immediately open fire if Greenland were subjected to a U.S. military invasion, without waiting for orders from the high command.
The Danish Ministry of Defense confirmed that a military base dating back to 1952 is still in effect, which states that Danish forces are obliged to shoot immediately if foreign forces enter Danish territory, including Greenland, in case it is a military invasion.
Conversely, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that he plans to discuss the issue of the United States acquiring Greenland with Danish officials during the next week, emphasizing that the White House prefers to reach the island through negotiation, with a mention that the United States may consider buying the island.
However, White House spokeswoman Carolaine Levitt did not rule out the option of military intervention if the diplomatic path fails, and likened President Trump's approach to this issue to his previous dealings with both Iran and Venezuela.
Reports indicate that Trump plans to bypass Denmark and the European Union by offering a direct proposal to the people of Greenland that includes continued autonomy, with the United States taking responsibility for defense and promises of economic prosperity.
At the same time, his advisors did not rule out the option of military intervention as one of the scenarios put forward.
