Khaberni - In an incident that shook the British public opinion, Norwich Crown Court is considering a horrific stabbing case where a woman is accused of attempting to murder her ex-husband following a dispute erupted over the disposal of their dogs.
According to what the court heard, Keith Bridger was stabbed twice by his wife Claire Bridger (64 years old), after she was informed that the two dogs they had adopted from an animal shelter in 2020 and 2021 had been disposed of.
The prosecution stated, according to Metro site, that the relationship between the couple, who had been married for about 40 years, collapsed last year, despite ongoing mediation sessions between them.
Bridger had moved from the marital home in Taverham – Norfolk to a new residence on Bramerton Street, where the stabbing incident occurred during his wife's visit.
The man told the court panel that his ex-wife entered into an "almost complete hysterical state" as soon as she heard the news about the dogs, adding: "I told her: You know what happened to the dogs, Claire.. The dogs have been killed", causing her to scream: "You killed my dogs".
The testimonies clarified that the dogs had behavioral problems, and that the husband decided to get rid of them after failing to find another home for them following the separation. Bridger said his ex-wife stopped her car towards him, then got out while holding a knife in her right hand, before stabbing him below the rib cage and under the armpit, as he tried to fend off her attack.
The jury heard that the defendant described her ex-husband as a "scumbag" and accused him of ruining her life and killing her dogs, while the man confirmed that she bit him twice on his right thigh, leaving him bleeding and crying for help until the neighbors intervened to rescue him and disarm her.
In contrast, Claire denied the murder attempt charge, telling the court that she stopped by her ex-husband's house spontaneously to hand over some items, and she asked him about the costs of the upcoming mediation session and the whereabouts of the dogs.
She added that she doesn't remember the details of what occurred after she opened the car door, noting that she suddenly felt a "great weight" on her back, and the last thing stuck in her memory was her husband informing her in an angry tone that the dogs had been gotten rid of.
She later admitted that she looked "crazy" when watching the video recording of the incident, confirming that panic and anxiety overwhelmed her at that moment.
The trial continues, amid anticipation of the verdict in one of the most controversial family cases in Britain.
