Khaberni - The new governor of Aden, Abdulrahman Sheikh Al-Yafei, took the constitutional oath today Saturday, in front of the president of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi.
The Yemeni news agency (SABA) stated that Al-Yafei took the oath in Riyadh following his "appointment as the Minister of State and Governor of Aden Province" in the presence of the Prime Minister, Salem Saleh Bin Breik.
It added that after the constitutional oath, Al-Alimi met with Al-Yafei, and they discussed the priorities for the next stage following the successful takeover of the camps, including normalizing conditions, securing and stabilizing, and reinforcing the rule of law “preparing for a promising phase of development and reconstruction in the temporary capital, Aden”.
The agency quoted Al-Alimi emphasizing the priority of unifying the security decision and enhancing the role of the security committee in the province, including the monopoly of arms exclusively by the state and empowering its national institutions with their exclusive powers.
Al-Alimi directed working with the government to improve services, particularly in electricity, and creating a safe and attractive investment environment, removing administrative hurdles, enhancing local and sovereign revenues, stimulating economic activity, restoring confidence in the city, and its historic port as a global commercial hub.
Al-Yafei was one of the leaders of the Southern Transitional Council when it was established on May 11, 2017.
On Friday, the Southern Transitional Council announced the dissolution of itself, all its main and subordinate bodies and agencies, and the cancellation of its offices domestically and abroad, according to a video statement broadcast by the Yemeni government channel and read by the Secretary-General of the Council's Presidency, Abdulrahman Al-Subeihi.
Al-Subeihi stated that the dissolution of the council was triggered by the recent developments in the provinces of Hadramout and Mahra in eastern Yemen, paving the way for participation in the upcoming Southern Dialogue Conference scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia, which the Kingdom invited on January 3 following a request from the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi.
This step came after military confrontations escalated since early December of the previous year, between the forces of the Transitional from one side, and the government forces and the legitimacy support alliance from another, in several provinces in the east and south of Yemen.
Despite recent local, regional, and international calls for withdrawal, and after days of military confrontations, the "Homeland Shield" forces regained Hadramout and Mahra, and the authorities of Abyan, Shabwa, and Lahj welcomed the government forces, and currently, these forces are taking over the remaining areas in Dhale and Socotra following the announcement of the dissolution of the Transitional.
The Transitional Council was demanding the separation of southern Yemen from the north, claiming that successive governments had marginalized the southern regions, which the authorities deny.
