Since 24 hours ago An Iraqi refuses to leave the water after the drowning of his children

Khaberni - A tragic incident shook the city of Baghdad, after the waters of an irrigation project in the Al-Alami area in Salah al-Din Province swept away two young children, while their father appeared in a painful scene, clinging to hope and searching for them in the middle of the watercourse, before his strength waned making him succumb to tears, holding a pipe inside the water and refusing to leave until they were found.

Local sources clarified that the siblings, aged four and five, were playing near the project yesterday evening (Friday) when one of them slipped and fell into the water. When his brother tried to save him, he lost his balance too and both children drowned together, amid the lack of any safety measures or supervision around the project.

A member of the Health Committee in Salah al-Din Province, Yasin Mohamed, said that the rescue teams, supported by a number of swimmers and citizens, started search operations as soon as they received the report, amid a severe state of shock experienced by the father who was present at the moment of the incident. He added that the father refuses to leave the water, insisting on searching for his children himself in a scene that touched everyone's hearts in light of the incident.

Rescue efforts continue in the area, amid public calls for intensifying search operations, and demands for re-evaluating irrigation projects and water resources and securing them by implementing strict preventive measures to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents, which have had a profound impact on the entire local community.
