The Syrian Army Announces Stopping Military Operations in Sheikh Maqsood District in Aleppo

Khaberni - The Syrian Army announced the cessation of all military operations in the Sheikh Maqsood district in Aleppo starting from 03:00 PM, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

On Saturday morning, the Syrian Army had announced the completion of a security operation in the Sheikh Maqsood district in Aleppo, where Kurdish fighters are stationed, while the Kurdish forces denied in a statement on Saturday that the government forces had control over Sheikh Maqsood.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that units of the security forces began deploying in the Sheikh Maqsood district, as part of a plan aimed at restoring security and stability, following the elimination of armed groups affiliated with "SDF".

This comes after days of fierce clashes between Kurdish and government forces, which erupted on Tuesday in the Kurdish districts of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah in the city of Aleppo, leaving 21 dead, with both sides exchanging accusations of igniting them.

On Saturday morning, the Syrian Army announced "the completion of a comprehensive sweep of the Sheikh Maqsood district in Aleppo" in an operation it declared on Friday night, asking civilians to "stay in their homes and not to go out".

These developments occur amidst stalled negotiations between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) since signing an agreement in March, which stipulated the integration of the institutions of the Kurdish autonomous administration within the framework of the Syrian state.

On Friday dawn, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire in the districts, giving Kurdish fighters a deadline to evacuate them in preparation for their transfer to areas of the Kurdish autonomous administration in northeast Syria.

However, the fighters refused and asserted that they will continue to "defend" their areas. The Kurdish forces stated that "the call coming from the interim government forces of Damascus to our people and our security forces is an invitation to surrender, yet our people in these districts are determined to stay in their neighborhoods and defend them."
