Kurdish forces deny government forces control over Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood in Aleppo

Khaberni - Kurdish forces denied on Saturday in a statement the control of government forces over the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood in Aleppo, confirming that clashes are ongoing, after the Syrian army had declared the completion of combing the neighborhood.

A statement issued by the Kurdish security forces in Aleppo read, "There are circulated (...) claims suggesting its control over 90% of the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood. We decisively affirm that these claims are false and misleading," adding that "on the ground, the axes of Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood witness violent street clashes with the militias of the Damascus government."

The Syrian army announced on Saturday morning the completion of a security operation in the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood in Aleppo, where Kurdish fighters are stationed.

This comes after days of fierce clashes between Kurdish and government forces, which broke out on Tuesday in the Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyeh in the city of Aleppo, resulting in 21 deaths, with both sides accusing each other of igniting them.

The Syrian army announced on Saturday morning "the completion of combing the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood in Aleppo completely" in an operation launched on Friday night, urging civilians to "stay in their homes and not go out."
