Hamas accuses Washington of providing cover for Israeli strikes on Gaza

Khaberni - An official in Hamas movement accused the United States on Friday of providing a "cover" for the Israeli army, following strikes that resulted in the martyrdom of 13 people on Thursday despite a ceasefire being in effect.

According to the civil defense in Gaza, at least 13 people were martyred, including 5 children, in Israeli strikes on the Palestinian territory on Thursday.

Bassem Naim, a member of the political bureau of Hamas, stated in a post on the Telegram app, “This cannot happen without an American cover or green light.”

He noted that “the plan is faltering due to (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu's insistence on evading his commitments and escalating to sabotage the agreement and return to war.”

He affirmed that Hamas “has adhered to all its obligations under the agreement,” adding that it is ready “to positively and constructively engage with the upcoming steps of the plan, the second phase.”

Israel demands the disarmament of Hamas and the return of the last detainee's body in Gaza before starting negotiations for the second phase of the agreement.

On Wednesday, two Hamas officials confirmed the resumption of the search for the remains of the detainee Ran Gefily in Gaza, after a stoppage that lasted two weeks due to weather conditions.

A ceasefire in Gaza came into effect on October 10th, but it has been marred by many breaches, as more than 425 Palestinians have been martyred since then.

The Israeli army announced that militants killed three of its soldiers during the same period.
