Jordan Meteorology warns of severe thunderstorms

Khaberni - The Meteorological Department warned on Friday of the risk of thunderstorms at this time, based on weather radar images that indicate the presence of rainy thunderclouds, sometimes heavy, accompanied by hail over the Balqa Governorate, moving towards the capital Amman.

Radar images also show thunderstorm cells over parts of the Madaba and Jerash governorates, which calls for caution and vigilance.

The Meteorological Department said that the Kingdom is currently affected by a low-pressure system accompanied by a cold and humid air mass, which began to affect from the morning hours of Friday with cold and cloudy weather, accompanied by rainfall in several areas, which is heavy at times, especially in the north, central Kingdom, and the southwestern regions.

It clarified that the effect of the low-pressure continues, where the weather remains cold to very cold and rainy, with periods of heavy rainfall, which raises the risk of floods in valleys and low-lying areas, and the rise of water levels, especially in the north and central Kingdom, as well as the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Additionally, the western winds are active and may be accompanied by strong gusts reaching about 60 km/h, especially over the highlands.

Ministries and municipalities announced their utmost readiness to deal with the expected weather depression affecting the Kingdom starting from Friday morning, confirming the readiness of their relevant teams to deal with any potential effects.

The relevant authorities confirmed the implementation of proactive measures and enhancing the readiness level to deal with the weather depression.
