Khaberni - The African Football Confederation "CAF" has put an end to the controversy and speculation about the reasons for the delay in announcing the refereeing panels for the Morocco vs Cameroon and Senegal vs Mali matches in the quarter-finals of the African Cup.
The quarter-final matches of the African tournament held in Morocco will start later today, Friday.
The delay in CAF's announcement of the refereeing panels has caused controversy about the secret behind this unusual delay.
This Friday morning, the African Confederation revealed the names of the referees for the Morocco vs Cameroon match, which will be officiated by a refereeing team led by the Mauritanian Dahane Beidh, assisted by the Angolan duo Gerson dos Santos and Efinaldo Sanchez, and the Congolese Steven Moyo as the third assistant.
The refereeing team also includes the Sudanese Mahmoud Ismail as the fourth official, and in video technology, the Ghanaian Daniel Laria, the Tunisian Haitham Guirat, the Senegalese Babacar Sarr, and the Congolese Rene Luzaya as the referees' observer have been selected.
For the Senegal vs Mali match, a refereeing team has been chosen, led by the South African Tom Abongile, assisted by his compatriot Zakahle Granvile, and Suro Fatswani from Lesotho, and the Gabonese Boris Ditsouga as assistants.
The Rwandan Samuel Uwikunda will be the fourth official, and in video technology, there are the Zimbabwean Brighton Chimeni, the Cameroonian Elvis Noupoue Nguegoue, and the Senegalese Fatouh Gaye as the referees' observer.
The delay in CAF's announcement of the refereeing teams has caused controversy among the Moroccan media, with reports indicating that the Moroccan Football Federation submitted an official complaint to the African Confederation protesting the delay in appointing referees for the Moroccan team's match against Cameroon.
The Moroccan newspaper "Hespress" explained that the Moroccan Federation considers this delay unjustified and not in accordance with the regulatory standards adopted in major continental competitions.
It added that the absence of an official announcement about the identity of the refereeing team for a crucial match raises many question marks regarding the organizational aspects and disrupts the preparations of both teams.
After a wave of controversy about the identities of the refereeing teams for Friday's matches in the quarter-finals, "CAF" finally announced the official selections for the matches.
