Khaberni - A 6-year-old child in the town of Kharja in the Bani Kinana district was bitten on part of his ear as a result of an attack by a stray dog while he was walking on a public street, necessitating his transfer to Yarmouk Hospital for treatment amid a state of intense fear and terror that the child has been experiencing since the incident.
The child's father, Abdullah Freiwan, said that the incident occurred around three in the afternoon while his son was heading to the store where he works, which is only about 150 meters from their home, where he was suddenly
Freiwan added that the presence of a woman in the area, i.e., the public street, helped to save his child as she immediately ran towards the dog and tried to drive it away from the child; however, the dog had already clamped its teeth onto the child's head and the bite marks were clear before it bit off part of his ear and fled the scene.
He explained that his child is currently suffering from a severe psychological condition as he lives in constant fear, cries intermittently, refuses to sleep alone, repeatedly saying "Daddy, I'm scared... the dog is in my head," which reflects the extent of the psychological trauma he experienced.
He pointed out that his child suffered visible disfigurement due to the dog biting part of his ear and causing severe wounds, confirming that this will affect his psyche in the future, especially as the ear is now deformed.
Freiwan mentioned that his child was transferred to Yarmouk Hospital in the Bani Kinana district, where he will undergo the standard treatment for rabies, in addition to monitoring his condition with specialist doctors to treat the damages to his ear.
He asserted his intention to file an official complaint against the municipality, holding it responsible for negligence in controlling the stray dog phenomenon in the area, noting that while hunting and poisoning of stray dogs has been banned, this should be met with finding alternative and effective solutions by the municipalities and not leaving the dogs in this way that causes terror, anxiety, and harm to residents, especially children.
