Low pressure affects the Jordanian Kingdom with high warnings of floods

Khaberni - The Meteorological Department announced that on Friday, the Kingdom is affected by a low pressure accompanied by a cold and humid air mass, resulting in a sharp and noticeable drop in temperatures, with weather being cold, cloudy, and rainy in the north and center of the Kingdom; rain will gradually extend to cover most areas.

The Meteorological Department expects the rain to be heavy at times in the north and center of the Kingdom and the southwestern provinces, including the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. This may be accompanied by thunder and hail, leading to the formation of floods in valleys and low-lying areas and rising water levels.

It mentioned that the westerly winds will become active, occasionally strong with gusts reaching (50–60) km/h, while precipitation decreases at night with a slight chance in the late hours of the night for sleet mixed with rain on the high peaks of the Sharah mountains, in addition to the formation of fog, especially above mountainous highlands.

The Meteorological Department has issued a high warning of the danger of floods forming in valleys and low areas and rising water levels in the north, center, and southwestern areas including the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea.

It also warned of the danger of reduced horizontal visibility due to fog and low clouds, intensity of rainfall, danger of strong wind speeds and accompanying strong gusts, and the possibility of reduced horizontal visibility in Badia regions due to dust. It also warned against the risk of crossing watercourses and areas of rainwater accumulation.

Ministries and municipalities announced their highest readiness to deal with the low pressure expected to affect the Kingdom starting from Friday morning, confirming that their relevant teams are on alert to handle any potential impacts.

The concerned authorities confirmed taking proactive measures and enhancing readiness levels to deal with the low pressure.

They expected Saturday to have cold, partly cloudy weather with a slight chance of scattered rain showers in the western parts, and conditions gradually stabilizing by the evening.

The forecast for Sunday is expected to be foggy in the morning in some areas, with a gradual increase in temperatures during the day. The weather will be cold in most areas and clear and cold at night.

On Monday, the Meteorological Department said that the weather remains sunny and cold during the day in most areas, relatively cold in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with some low clouds appearing.

It added that gradually at night, the Kingdom would be affected by a low pressure, with clouds increasing at different elevations, leading to the chance of rain showers in the north and center of the Kingdom, intensifying with the early morning hours of Tuesday.
