Egypt Thwarts New Fraud Operation Related to the Grand Museum

Khaberni - The Egyptian authorities announced the detection and thwarting of a widespread electronic fraud operation targeting visitors of "the Grand Egyptian Museum", after identifying three fraudulent websites deceiving citizens and foreign tourists by claiming association with the museum and selling fake visit tickets.

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism clarified that within the framework of regular and continuous monitoring conducted by the management of the Grand Egyptian Museum to oversee what is published on the Internet, three fraudulent websites involved in selling and booking visit tickets have been caught.

The ministry confirmed that all necessary legal actions are currently being taken against these sites, in preparation for their permanent closure and to hold those responsible accountable before judicial authorities.

The museum administration emphasized that these sites have no connection to the museum and are solely aimed at misleading and exploiting those interested in visiting, confirming that the only official and accredited website for buying tickets is: (www.visit-gem.com).

This movement is a continuation of previous measures taken by the authorities to face fraud and forgery attempts that have targeted the museum since its grand opening last November.

The Ministry of Tourism mentioned that it recently dealt with another fraudulent website, notifying the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the relevant entities immediately upon detection, resulting in the closure of the violating site and protecting the public from extortion.

The Egyptian authorities invited the visiting public, both Egyptians and foreigners, to rely exclusively on the official platform to obtain information and complete bookings securely, urging full caution and not to deal with any platforms claiming to be associated with the museum, assuring the continuation of technical monitoring of the Internet to detect any violations and shut them down immediately.

It is noted that since the beginning of the trial operation of the main halls, the Grand Egyptian Museum has witnessed an "unprecedented" turnout, welcoming between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors daily during peak periods.

The Ministry of Tourism aspires to attract 5 million visitors annually to this massive cultural edifice alone, especially after the complete opening of "King Tutankhamun's collection".

Leading the list of foreign visitors are European countries, particularly Germany, Italy, and France, as well as the United States, along with a continuous and heavy influx of Egyptian citizens, school and university students, making the museum a target for electronic fraud gangs looking to exploit this significant global turnout.
