Khaberni - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty confirmed today (Thursday) his country's rejection of the division of the Gaza Strip, describing it as «totally and utterly unacceptable», and that Egypt cannot accept it under any circumstances.
During a press conference with the European Union's foreign policy officer Kaja Kallas in Cairo, Abdel Atty added that they agreed on the importance of quickly completing the first phase of the Gaza agreement, especially opening the Rafah crossing in both directions, and the necessity of actually beginning the implementation of the second phase, including quickly announcing the committee that will manage the Gaza Strip.
Abdel Atty emphasized that Egypt is severely affected by the ongoing crisis in Sudan due to the fighting between the Sudanese army and the «Rapid Support Forces», stressing the total rejection of the division of Sudan and the establishment of any parallel entities.
The foreign minister pointed out that he clarified to the European Union's foreign policy officer the importance of sharing the burden resulting from Egypt hosting a large number of refugees.
Regarding the recognition of what is called the «Land of Somalia», Abdel Atty confirmed that this move is a dangerous precedent, describing it as a threat to regional and international peace and stability.
In relation to the conflict with Ethiopia regarding the Grand Renaissance Dam and the Nile waters, the Egyptian foreign minister stressed that Egypt will spare no effort in defending its existential interests.
