Suzy the Jordanian Fined 100000 Egyptian Pounds in Family Values Case

Khaberni - The Egyptian blogger «Suzy the Jordanian» paid a financial penalty of 100,000 Egyptian pounds, executing the court ruling issued against her by the Economic Court, in the case where she is accused of misusing social media,

Her defense attended the payment session accompanied by her blogger friend «Moonly», where legal proceedings were completed.

The Economic Misdemeanor Appellate Court ruled to accept the appeal submitted by Suzy the Jordanian, and decided to reduce the imprisonment sentence issued against her to 6 months instead of a full year with immediate effect, while maintaining the financial penalty of 100,000 Egyptian pounds and confiscating the items in question.

This judgment came after reviewing the appeal against the decision of the first-degree court, which had sentenced the accused to a year of imprisonment with immediate effect, in addition to the fine and confiscation, on the basis of her publishing content deemed offensive to Egyptian family values on social media platforms.

In the reasoning of the judgment, the Economic Court emphasized that what was issued by the accused does not fall within the scope of a minor individual error, but represents – as described by the court – an assault on the moral identity of the Egyptian society, through presenting practices and behaviors described as glamorizing vice within a false entertainment framework, aiming for popularity and trending.

The court also highlighted the seriousness of the content circulated on social media, and sent clear messages about the need to combine the efforts of community institutions to protect generations from foreign phenomena that threaten the value system and cultural heritage, emphasizing the importance of addressing crimes of misusing digital platforms with legal rigor and comprehensive societal awareness.
