Khaberni - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing confirmed its readiness to deal with the expected weather depression affecting the kingdom starting from tomorrow morning, Friday, through a comprehensive package of field and precautionary measures aimed at ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and maintaining the safety of road users.
The spokesperson for the ministry, Omar Al-Maharme, said that the ministry's staff has completed the cleaning and monitoring of water passages in various regions of the kingdom and continuously inspecting them to ensure their capacity to accommodate the expected water quantities and prevent the formation of water accumulations or landslides.
He added that the specialized teams distributed concrete barriers in locations prone to landslides, cleaned and prepared road sides, and installed necessary protections, in addition to carrying out grading works on unstable slopes at some roadsides, to prevent their erosion and secure them engineeringly and reinforcing dangerous sites with about 3500 concrete barriers during the past days.
Al-Maharme pointed out that the work included the preparation and cleaning of the lateral ditches, ensuring efficient rainwater drainage, alongside the execution of periodic and comprehensive maintenance for all machinery and ensuring their technical readiness to deal with any emergency during the impact period of the depression, as well as expanding some water passages using (grb) culverts known for their easy transport and installation.
He explained that the ministry has boosted the machinery in cooperation with contractors in various provinces, to ensure fast response and increase the level of readiness, in parallel with the continued operation of the field teams, machinery, emergency rooms, and operations around the clock, in continuous coordination with the relevant authorities, especially the Traffic Department and the external patrols, to regulate traffic and deal with any field developments.
He stated that the ministry receives citizens' reports through 15 operation rooms in its directorates around the clock to ensure a rapid response and addressing any emergency, dealing with them through 110 field teams supported by 135 government vehicles and 20 snow plows, in addition to 190 vehicles from the private sector within the readiness and on-call to immediately address any situation that requires intervention.
The ministry invited citizens not to hesitate in contacting the main operation room through the unified number (106) from any mobile or land phone, or via the number (06/5850111), and also through "WhatsApp" at (0780377223).
It also invited to submit reports directly to the emergency rooms in the provinces, on the numbers designated for each province: the capital (0780377291), Irbid (0780377276), Balqa (0780377413), Karak (0780377242), Mafraq (0780377389), Jerash (0780377187), Ajloun (0787700258), Madaba (0780377366), Zarqa (0780377125), Tafilah (0780377158), Ma'an (0780377338), Aqaba (0780377351), Ramtha (0780377388) and Petra (0780377179).
It is noted that the Meteorological Department warned this morning, Thursday, of the danger of floods forming in valleys and low areas, rising water levels in the northern, central, and south-western regions of the kingdom, and in the Jordan Valley areas, in addition to the danger of reduced horizontal visibility due to fog and low clouds touching the ground, severity of rainfalls, alongside the danger of high wind speeds and accompanying strong gusts, indicating the possibility of reduced horizontal visibility in the desert areas due to dust, and warned about the risk of slipping on roads experiencing rainfall and the risk of crossing areas with water accumulations and flood courses.
