Trump Signs Declaration to Withdraw from 66 International Organizations

Khaberni - American President Donald Trump signed on Wednesday a declaration for the withdrawal of the United States from 35 non-United Nations organizations and 31 entities affiliated with it, saying they "operate in contradiction to American national interests".

The statement released by the White House did not mention the names of these organizations but stated that they promote "radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological programs that are in conflict with the sovereignty of the United States and its economic power".

It added that this decision was the result of a comprehensive review of all international governmental organizations, agreements, and treaties that the United States is a member of or a party to.

The White House said: "These withdrawals will end American taxpayer funding and U.S. participation in entities that advance agendas at the expense of American priorities, or deal with important issues with weak efficiency or effectiveness, thereby preferring to allocate American taxpayer funds in other ways to support relevant missions".

Since the beginning of his second term a year ago, Trump has sought to reduce U.S. funding to the United Nations, halted U.S. participation in the United Nations Human Rights Council, and extended the suspension of funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The United States also withdrew from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as well as President Trump announcing plans to withdraw from the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement.
