Khaberni - Dr. Mohammad Waheeb Hussein from the Hashemite University received the King Faisal Prize for the current year 2026 in the field of Islamic Studies, during the announcement ceremony held today, Wednesday, in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
The King Faisal Prize has been awarded since 1977 by the King Faisal Foundation, in recognition of individuals and institutions for their distinguished achievements in 5 fields: Service to Islam, Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, Medicine, and Science.
Dr. Waheeb was awarded the prize for "Trade Routes in the Islamic World"; for reasons including: his work being of high scientific value and clear field originality, as it was based on direct archaeological surveys, supported by precise coordinate documentation using GPS systems with detailed analytical maps, enhancing the reliability of results. His methodology was distinguished by scientific rigor, through linking the Quranic text with geographical and field data, providing a scientifically balanced reading of the Meccan Ilaaf path in its geographical and historical context. His work is considered a quality addition in documenting the early trade routes in the Arabian Peninsula.
