Cameroon Specializes in Eliminating Africa Cup Hosts

Khaberni - The Cameroon national team enters its match against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations burdened with a heavy history that distresses the host nations of the continental tournament, having succeeded in eliminating the home teams from the competition 5 times, among them Morocco, while the only time it failed to eliminate the host was against Egypt.

The "Indomitable Lions" play against Morocco, the host of the 2025 edition, on Friday in the quarter-finals, and the winner will meet in the semi-finals with the team that advances from the Nigeria vs Algeria match.

The Cameroon national team has faced host nations in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations 6 times throughout its history, suffering only one loss, which was against Egypt, the champion of the 1986 edition.

After that match, Cameroon began a "terrifying" streak of matches in the knockout stages against host nations, eliminating their competitor Morocco, the host of the 1988 edition, by winning 1-0 in the semi-finals.

During the 1992 edition, Cameroon won against Senegal by a score of 1-0 in the quarter-finals, before continuing its remarkable streak in the 2000 edition by winning against Nigeria in a penalty shootout in the final to claim the title.

In the following edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon swept its competitor Mali, the host of the 2002 tournament, by winning 3-0 in the semi-finals.

The last victory for the Cameroonians against a host team of the tournament was in 2008 when they eliminated Ghana from the semi-finals by winning with a lone goal.
