Khaberni - American President Donald Trump said that his intervention during his presidency led to a radical change in how NATO dealt with the defense spending issue, pointing out that alliance countries were only spending about 2% of their Gross Domestic Product, and most were not committing to paying their dues before he came to power.
Trump clarified in a post on his "Truth Social" account that the United States was bearing a large financial burden on behalf of its allies, considering this "unwise," according to him.
Raising its defense spending
He also noted that he succeeded in pushing the alliance countries to increase their defense spending to 5% of Gross Domestic Product and to promptly meet their obligations, despite many doubting this was possible.
He added that his intervention prevented Russia from fully taking over Ukraine, stating that the absence of such a role would have led to disastrous outcomes, and claimed he alone contributed to ending eight wars, saving millions of lives.
In the same context, Trump criticized Norway, a NATO member state, for not awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize, asserting that it does not bother him, because what matters more, according to him, is the results he achieved on the ground.
