Khaberni - Dr. Mohamed Khalaf Al-Fayez, head of the Greater Mafraq Municipality Committee, said that sinkholes have been detected in the sewage lines in Mafraq caused by recent low pressure weather systems.
Al-Fayez added that the municipal engineering services and specialized engineers have conducted field investigations on these sinkholes, noting that the contractor was summoned in the presence of the municipality's lawyer to take legal actions against him if the sinkholes are not rectified.
He mentioned that the contractor has begun repairing the faults at the sinkhole sites, indicating that conditions will be set by the engineering services regarding this matter, in addition to guarantees for good organization.
Citizens in Mafraq city complained about the occurrence of sinkholes at several sites within the sewage project, which negatively affected the commercial movement due to the accumulation of sand and dirt in front of their shops as well as adverse effects on their vehicles, demanding the municipality to compel sewage project contractors to restore the streets to their former condition prior to the project execution.
