Khaberni - US War Secretary Pete Higseth confirmed that the ban imposed on sanctioned Venezuelan oil is still in effect worldwide.
This was stated in a comment regarding the news that US forces had detained the Russian tanker "Marinera" in the Atlantic Ocean.
Higseth wrote on the "X" platform: "The ban on Venezuelan oil, which is sanctioned and illegally extracted, remains fully in effect everywhere in the world."
The US European Command reported on Wednesday that US authorities detained the Russian oil tanker "Marinera" for violating the US sanctions regime.
For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern about the situation that has arisen around the Russian tanker. The Ministry said on Tuesday that Moscow is watching with concern the "abnormal situation" that has arisen around the Russian oil tanker "Marinera," which was in international waters in the North Atlantic under the Russian flag according to international maritime law.
The Ministry emphasized that the Russian tanker "is inexplicably receiving increased and clearly disproportionate attention to its peaceful status by US forces and NATO."
The Russian Foreign Ministry continued: "Moscow expects that Western countries, which declare their commitment to the freedom of navigation in high seas, will start implementing this principle themselves."
Earlier, the company "Borivest Marin" reported in a statement reviewed by RT that the Russian oil tanker "M/T Marinera" is undergoing a prolonged chase by the US Coast Guard in the North Atlantic with warnings of a possible interception attempt in hazardous weather conditions.
The company confirmed that the oil tanker "M/T Marinera" (IMO number: 9230880), which is empty and heading towards the Russian city of Murmansk at 8.5 knots, is being chased by the US Coast Guard under aerial surveillance by "P-8A Poseidon" reconnaissance planes.
