Scandal Pursues the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate

Khaberni - Three members of the board of the Egyptian Musicians' Syndicate filed a report with the Attorney General concerning practices that allegedly involve suspicion of assault, aggression on public funds, and profiting for some, in addition to tax evasion by some members, which is a violation of the law as it constitutes a waste of public money and the financial rights of the syndicate members.

Corruption and monopoly over decisions

The legal advisor Ahmed Azzam, representing the claimants, First Agent of the Syndicate artist Helmi Abdel Baqi, General Secretary Ahmed Abu Al-Majd, and council member Dr. Atef Imam, announced that until the completion of the investigation by the Public Funds Prosecution, we declare to all that any decisions issued by the board of the Egyptian Musicians' Syndicate under the leadership of the chief Mostafa Kamel are marred by several procedural and legal flaws, most notably malice, protection of private interests, and intimidation of every council or general assembly member until the truth is obscured in the darkness of fear from arbitrariness and oppression including decisions on membership cancellation and others.

He mentioned in a statement released that the chief Mostafa Kamel has monopolized all the decisions related to the council during the past period, as well as behaviors and his management style of the syndicate council sessions and what was broadcast and published, the most notable being the live broadcast of the meeting held on November 17 last year on his Facebook account, and what occurred therein of declared excesses, which was disapproved by all cultural circles for its style and method unlike any other syndicates.

The statement considered this method "unacceptable and is seen as an ethical lapse affecting all general assembly members before being a syndicate lapse and unprecedented, hence the trio of the council decided to file complaints immediately upon learning of the suspected corruption and deviation from the syndicate's work integrity."
