Khaberni – Yazeed Abu Layla, the goalkeeper for Al-Hussein Irbid and the Jordanian national team, confirmed that he dropped the case he had previously raised against a number of fans who insulted him on social media.
Abu Layla clarified in his statement that the complaint was not directed at the fans of any particular club but was limited to a few fans who directly and personally insulted him beyond the boundaries of acceptable sports criticism.
He added: "For me, it has always been and still is a matter of personal dignity and respect, unrelated to the clubs or the aware fans who have always been and still are my biggest support throughout my career."
Abu Layla continued: "Out of my constant care for brotherhood and responsibility, and out of respect for our aware fans, I have decided to withdraw the legal complaint I had filed against the individuals I had complained about, following kind initiatives and sincere friendly efforts, which I highly appreciate and respect."
Following is what Abu Layla wrote:
To our dear Jordanian fans,
To everyone who holds in their heart a love for this country, and who respects its sports and its players,
I would like to clarify to the Jordanian public the facts regarding the legal complaint I recently filed, which has stirred much controversy and misunderstanding.
This complaint was not, is not, and will never be directed at the Jordanian football audience, nor at the fans of any of our dear clubs which I cherish and respect, but was aimed at a very limited number of individuals who directed direct and personal insults at me, which crossed the boundaries of acceptable sports criticism and reached a level that cannot be ignored or overlooked under any circumstances.
I clearly affirm that when I took this action, I did not know, did not inquire, and was not concerned about any club affiliation of the individuals involved, for me, it has always been and still is a matter of personal dignity and respect, unrelated to the clubs or the aware fans who have always been and still are my biggest support throughout my career.
Out of my constant care for brotherhood and responsibility, and out of respect for our aware fans, I have decided to withdraw the legal complaint against the individuals I had complained about, following kind initiatives and sincere friendly efforts, which I highly appreciate and respect.
I seize this opportunity to express my deep thanks and gratitude to all fans of the Jordanian national team, and to the fans of the clubs I had the honor of representing and defending their colors, in particular:
The youth of Jordan, Al-Faisaly, and Al-Hussein Irbid.
Fans I cherish for their love, whose stance I appreciate, and whom I hold in great esteem and respect.
I also affirm my full respect for sports criticism in all its forms and levels, as long as it adheres to a professional and ethical framework, for constructive criticism is an essential part of the development of any player and any sports system.
I offer thanks to everyone who supported and stood by me, to everyone who reached out to me, and to all who pursued sincere friendly efforts to conclude this matter in the spirit of brotherhood and responsibility.
I will always remain, as I have always been, a devoted soldier in the service of Jordanian sports and the great Jordanian people, honored to represent my country and proud to work under the esteemed Hashemite leadership, praying to God to maintain the blessings of security and stability on our Jordan.
And God is behind the intent.
