Iran considers statements by Trump and Netanyahu on protests as a threat and vows to respond

Khaberni - Iranian army commander Amir Hatami confirmed on Wednesday that Tehran considers the statements by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the ongoing protests as a "threat" and will not tolerate them continuing without a response.

The Fars News Agency quoted Hatami saying that Iran "considers the escalation of rhetoric against the Iranian nation as a threat and we will not tolerate its continuation without a response".

He added "If they (..) make a mistake, we will respond with even greater firmness" than witnessed in the war that lasted 12 days with Israel in June, during which the United States intervened by striking Iranian nuclear facilities.

In recent days, Trump has threatened military intervention in Iran if protesters are killed, while Netanyahu has expressed his support for them.

Trump said on Sunday "We are watching the situation closely. If they start killing people as they have done in the past, I think they will receive a very strong blow from the United States."

For his part, Netanyahu stated during the weekly government meeting "We stand in solidarity with the struggle of the Iranian people and their aspirations for freedom and justice."

On Monday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry considered the statements by Trump and Netanyahu as "incitement to violence", accusing Israel of seeking to "undermine national unity".

In June, Israel and Iran faced each other in a war that lasted 12 days, after Israel launched an unprecedented attack on military, nuclear sites and also residential areas in Iran.

The United States briefly participated in this war, directing strikes at three major Iranian nuclear facilities.
