Khaberni - A 39-year-old Saudi citizen died after his jet ski overturned while he was riding with a woman, following a collision with large waves at Bobalu Beach in Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi district, West Java, Indonesia, in the afternoon on Monday, according to local authorities, and the second passenger was critically injured and suffered serious injuries.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the water and air police unit of the Sukabumi police suggest that the jet ski may have collided with a large wave at sea. The Palabuhanratu police confirmed that they are investigating to determine the causes of the accident.
The Saudi Embassy in Jakarta confirmed that the procedures to transfer the citizen's body back to the Kingdom have been completed.
The rescuers were successful in extracting the tourist from the sea and transported him to the general regional hospital in Palabuhanratu, where he died upon arrival due to the severe injuries he sustained, while the second injured person, an Indonesian citizen from Sukamaju district in Tugo Selatan village, Cisarua area of Bogor district, is still in the hospital.
The Accident in a Tourist Area
According to the data available from the location, the accident occurred in a coastal tourist area within Palabuhanratu where the victims were on a jet ski heading towards open waters before the vehicle overturned while they were trying to return to the beach.
Witnesses reported that the jet ski continued to advance amid high waves despite the turbulent sea, before being hit by a large wave that flipped it violently.
A witness for the security forces named Mashiva Kosar (24 years old) stated: «The hit was extremely strong, and the male victim's head hit the body of the jet ski before he was thrown into the water».
The witness added that both riders were wearing life jackets, but they were later seen floating on the surface of the water motionless.
He continued: «They were floating unconscious, and at that moment, there was no immediate rescue response from the operating side».
