Khaberni - In confirmation of Amman Arab University's commitment to enhancing its students' awareness of sustainable development concepts and their role in serving the community, and developing their cognitive and practical skills in accordance with its vision and academic mission, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, in cooperation with the Dean of Student Affairs at the university, organized a training workshop titled: "Sustainable Development" for students of the volunteer work and community development course, presented by: Dr. Lina Al-Jarah, a faculty member in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Shireen Abu Ghazaleh, director of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development and a faculty member in the Faculty of Law at the university.
The event covered key aspects related to the concept of sustainable development, its goals, and dimensions, and its role in achieving a balance between economic growth and the conservation of natural resources. Introductory videos about these aspects were shown, in addition to highlighting the importance of involving youth in sustainable initiatives and enhancing community awareness of environmental issues and social responsibility.
In this regard, Dr. Al-Jarah emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability concepts into university activities and in practical life, due to its pivotal role in instilling a culture of community responsibility among students, and developing their ability to link theoretical and practical aspects, which contributes to preparing a generation aware of environmental issues and sustainable development. In turn, Dr. Abu Ghazaleh pointed out the importance of supporting national and institutional efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development goals, stressing that enhancing partnerships between universities and community institutions effectively contributes to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development, and enhances the role of youth in making a positive change in society.
The workshop included interactive discussions and practical examples addressing the role of volunteer work in supporting sustainable development, and highlighted the main challenges and opportunities available for youth to actively participate in community initiatives, with noticeable interaction from the students.
