Khaberni - The U.S. Department of Health announced a reduction in the number of vaccines recommended for children, based on a new schedule, which President Donald Trump described as «more logical» than its predecessor.
Now, 6 vaccines previously recommended for all American children will be limited to children who are at higher risk. These include influenza, hepatitis A and B, meningococcal (causing meningitis), and the rotavirus vaccine causing gastroenteritis, with the «COVID-19» vaccine having been removed from the list a few months ago.
The U.S. Secretary of Health Robert Kennedy Jr. stated in a release «After a comprehensive review of the knowledge, we are aligning the child vaccination schedule in the United States with the international consensus».
He added: «Parents can still choose to vaccinate their children with all the vaccines if they wish, and health insurance will continue to cover them».
Conversely, a number of specialists have expressed concerns about this decision.
Infectious disease and pediatrics specialist Sean O'Leary said, «The American children's vaccination schedule is one of the most thoroughly researched tools in protecting children from serious diseases, which can sometimes be fatal».
He emphasized the importance of basing any decisions regarding this issue on scientific evidence rather than «comparisons that do not take into account the significant differences between countries and health systems».
