Khaberni - The chairman of the Petra Regional Development and Tourism Authority commission, Fares Al-Barizat, announced the redevelopment of an area estimated at 223 dunams for the resettlement of juniper trees in the region, in cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Al-Barizat clarified in a statement for the authority on Tuesday that this step comes as part of efforts to revive the natural ecosystems directly affected by climate change, noting that, for the first time at the national level, juniper trees are being planted in their original habitat within the Petra region.
He said that the first phase of the project witnessed the planting of 700 juniper saplings, confirming that this initiative is part of the national efforts to protect biodiversity and enhance the resilience of ecosystems to the impacts of climate change.
Al-Barizat pointed out that the project contributes to supporting environmental sustainability and preserving the unique natural heritage that characterizes the Petra region, expressing that the initiative reflects the authority's commitment to implementing sustainable environmental programs.
He noted that the project represents a model for effective collaboration between the Petra Region Authority and specialized international organizations, ensuring the protection of natural resources and their preservation for future generations.
