Denmark US Seizure of Greenland Would End NATO

Khaberni - Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen confirmed on Monday, that any American seizure of the island of Greenland would represent the end of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Frederiksen and her counterpart in Greenland, Jens Frederik Nielsen, attacked the statements of President Donald Trump, warning of "catastrophic consequences," while many European leaders expressed solidarity with them.

Frederiksen told Danish "TV 2" on Monday, "If the United States opts to militarily attack another NATO country, then everything stops, including our alliance, and thus the security that has been secured since the end of World War II."

Frederiksen's statements come in response to US President Donald Trump renewing his call for imposing American control over the strategic, mineral-rich polar island, following the military operation that took place in Venezuela last weekend.

The swift operation carried out by the US forces in Caracas to arrest President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, early last Saturday, left the world in shock, and heightened the concerns of Denmark and Greenland, the autonomous region under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark and part of NATO.
