Launch of a campaign to clean King Talal Dam

Khaberni  - The Directorate of Environment in Jerash launched on Tuesday under the sponsorship of the Minister of Environment, Ayman Sulaiman, a cleanup campaign for waste on the water surface of King Talal Dam, within a campaign to limit the phenomenon of random waste dumping.

The Assistant Governor of Jerash for Public Safety Affairs, Zaid Al-Habahbeh, said that the governorate has put forth a plan consisting of two tracks; the first track is educational, involving the distribution of brochures, holding lectures, and warning the owners of commercial shops against random waste disposal.

Al-Habahbeh added that the second track is the enforcement of the law, not tolerating anyone who disposes of waste randomly and referring offenders to the judiciary for legal actions.

Al-Habahbeh noted that a number of campaigns have been launched to collect waste in public and forested areas and picnic spots within the governorate, in addition to holding several workshops and lectures in partnership with various official bodies within the governorate to reduce the phenomenon of random waste dumping.

Al-Habahbeh pointed out that hotspots where waste accumulates have been identified, in cooperation with the heads of municipal committees within the governorate.

The director of King Talal Dam, Jawad Ghraibeh, explained that the waste on the water surface in King Talal Dam comes from the tributaries that feed the dam, noting that after the low-pressure weather systems, the water surface is cleaned of waste.

Ghraibeh indicated that the storage rate in King Talal Dam reached 64%, approximately 44 million cubic meters, noting that the current season is promising.
