After the Floods What Went On Between AlKarak Deputies and the Government

Khaberni - Minister of Public Works and Housing Maher Abu Al-Samn emphasized the ministry's commitment to addressing the sites affected in the governorate of Al-Karak due to the recent exceptional rainfall, affirming that necessary measures have been taken both on the roads owned by the ministry and those of the municipalities alike in the areas of Muta, Al-Thaniya, Ghor Numayra, and Al-Iraq town, with the aim of ensuring the safety of citizens and overcoming administrative jurisdiction considerations.

Abu Al-Samn, in a meeting attended by the Minister of Tourism Dr. Imad Hijazin and the deputies of Al-Karak governorate, mentioned that the ministry dealt with 220 reports during the low pressure, covering vital areas across all roads and regions, including Wadi Shueib and other parts of the kingdom, emphasizing the need to own or fix the course of valleys to prevent encroachments and ensure they do not recur.

Abu Al-Samn said that the ministry is operating at full capacity during weather depressions, with 110 field teams spread across all regions of the kingdom supported by 135 governmental vehicles from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and (180) rented vehicles, and a set of support vehicles will be purchased by 2026 according to the ministry's plan.

Abu Al-Samn directed the ministry officials to follow up on all comments from the honorable deputies and to complete the projects on decentralization, school buildings, and health centers within the specified timelines across all governorates.

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Imad Hijazin reviewed the steps taken to deal with the collapse of the wall adjacent to Al-Karak castle, where technical teams began collecting and numbering stones for reuse in building the wall according to archaeological standards.

He mentioned ongoing coordination with the Supreme Construction Committee for the assessment of the site and protection of Al-Karak Gate project plaza from water flow, in addition to commissioning engineering offices to prepare a comprehensive technical study for the wall, and communicating with legal authorities to take necessary actions regarding implementing Al-Karak Gate project.

During the meeting, which was a response to a parliamentary demand, Al-Karak deputies raised a series of observations about the need to improve infrastructure to keep pace with climate and social changes, where the deputies Dr. Ibrahim Al-Tarawneh, Haitham Al-Zyoud, Ahmad Al-Qatawneh, Jamil Al-Dheisat, Fathi Al-Bouat, Hussein Al-Tarawneh, Mahmoud Al-Naimat, Mohammad Al-Bestenji, and Ibrahim Al-Srayrah, emphasized the importance of having a strategic plan and a clear time schedule for stalled projects, especially in the health sector and the roads Kuthrabah and Sarfa-Al-Ghour.

The deputies insisted on the need to increase the allocations for the governorate and address valley streams and culverts to ensure preventing recurrent land erosions, calling for activating monitoring tools on projects to ensure the quality of execution and prevent the waste of financial allocations.

In the context of field work, directors of administrations in the Ministry of Public Works discussed the current status of projects and future plans for infrastructure and service projects in Al-Karak governorate.

They highlighted the update of the hotspot list, which reached 128 spots across the kingdom, and the monitoring of vital projects in Al-Karak with a value exceeding 11 million dinars, focusing on traffic safety and lighting.

Also confirmed was the cooperation with the Potash Company to reconstruct the culverts in the Ghor Numayra region and Al-Kharzah road to ensure the continuity and safety of road users.

The meeting was attended by the General Director of the Public Antiquities Department, Fawzi Qasim Abu Danah, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing for Technical Affairs Jamal Qutaishat, and several department directors in the Ministries of Public Works and Tourism.
