Scientists identify a potential cause for the increase in migraine cases

Khaberni - Prominent experts warn that climate change may be a cause for a concerning rise in debilitating migraine cases.

According to "Daily Mail", Dr. Danielle Wilhour, a neurology expert at the University of Colorado, stated that climate change seems to contribute to the increased frequency and severity of migraine attacks.

She added: "Climate change exacerbates environmental conditions known to trigger migraines".

These conditions include rising temperatures, sharp temperature fluctuations, deteriorating air quality, and changes in atmospheric pressure, all of which are factors associated with the occurrence of migraines.

Experts also warned that the psychological stress associated with climate change could play a role in this.

How does climate change affect?

Stress is one of the most common causes of migraines, and experts say that increasing anxiety linked to extreme weather events, disruption of daily routines, and environmental instability might exacerbate this increase.

A study presented at the annual scientific meeting of the American Headache Society last year, which analyzed migraine patient diaries, found that for every 1.2 degrees Celsius increase in outdoor temperature, there was a 6% increase in headache attacks on the same day.

High humidity days

A Japanese study conducted in 2023 found that headaches are more common on days with high humidity, frequent rains, and changes in atmospheric pressure.

Another large study involving more than 400,000 Britons found that migraines are more common among people exposed to extreme temperatures, both in summer and winter.

Migraine is a complex neurological condition believed to involve dysfunction in brain signals, changes in blood flow, and the release of inflammatory chemicals that affect pain pathways.
