What Happens to Your Body When You Stop Eating Sugar for 14 Days

Khaberni - Sugar is an integral part of our diet as we find it in almost everything, from sweets to seemingly healthy foods. However, consuming it in large amounts can lead to many health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay.

Despite the difficulty of completely eliminating sugar, reducing its consumption can yield significant health benefits.

In this report from "NDTV", gastroenterologist Sorab Sethi shares valuable insights on the effects of reducing sugar on the body.

Initially, Sethi highlights that "sugar not only adds calories but also affects appetite, cravings, insulin levels, and liver fat; in a not so apparent manner".

This is why I ask my patients to try abstaining from sugar for 14 days," added the doctor.

The First Week

According to Sorab, your body undergoes several changes when you start reducing sugar intake.

Initially, the brain adapts to the sugar shortage, which can lead to intense cravings, headaches, fatigue, nervousness, and mental confusion. The doctor explained that "this is not withdrawal, but rather a resetting of the brain to respond to change".

As your body adjusts, you will begin to notice improvement. Your cravings will decrease, and your energy levels will become more stable.

You are likely to experience less bloating and fewer dips in energy in the afternoon, and your insulin response will begin to improve, meaning your body will become more efficient at dealing with sugar.

The Second Week

By the second week, these changes will lead to a flatter stomach, better sleep, clearer hunger signals, a reduced craving for food, and an improvement in fasting blood sugar levels.

Even if the changes don’t show on the scale, your metabolism will improve.

This means that your body becomes more efficient in using energy, which may lead to other long-term health benefits.

The gastroenterologist, Sorab Sethi, explains that abstaining from added sugar for 14 days helps reduce insulin spikes, decrease sugar accumulation in the liver, and reduce water retention.

It also resets your taste buds and reduces signals from visceral fats.

The bottom line is: "This reset is particularly beneficial if you suffer from consistent food cravings, bloating, fatty liver, insulin resistance, low energy, and poor sleep."
