Khaberni - The French Civil Aviation Authority requested airlines, on Monday, to cancel 15% of the flights at Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports until later in the evening following heavy snowfall in the capital, Paris.
A spokesman for the authority told Reuters that airlines are "free" to choose which flights they will cancel, as long as they reduce takeoff and landing operations.
The authority requested airlines to reduce flights at Charles de Gaulle Airport, and at Orly Airport.
The French Ministry of Transport urged travelers to check if their flights would take off before leaving their homes and to head to the airport using public transportation instead of cars.
The Dutch news agency (ANP) reported that Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, one of the busiest airports in Europe, also canceled about 500 flights on Monday morning, and prevented the reception of any incoming flights until 1200 GMT due to snowfall as well.
