Khaberni - Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian team, played his 22nd match in the African Nations Cup finals during the face-off against Benin in the round of sixteen on Monday, surpassing the record of current team coach Hossam Hassan who has 21 matches in the tournament.
According to Transfermarkt, Salah (33 years old) has 109 international matches and has scored 63 goals, and he continues to be a key element in Egypt's efforts to win their eighth continental title.
Salah's record of 22 matches in the African Nations puts him in third place locally alongside his former teammates Abdel-Zaher El-Saqa and Ahmed Fathy, behind record holder Ahmed Hassan (32 matches) and former goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary (28 matches).
Ahmed Hassan stands out not only on the local level but also in the history of the tournament, as he occupies the second position in the list of most participations with 32 matches, behind Cameroonian Rigobert Song and Ghanaian Andre Ayew, each with 36 matches.
Salah continues his strong presence in 5 consecutive editions since 2017, which cements his status as one of the main pillars in Egypt’s continental campaign.
