Khaberni - The Syrian Ministry of Interior revealed on Monday the truth about the news going around regarding an incident targeting President Ahmad Al-Shara and some of his leadership team.
The spokesperson for the Syrian Ministry of Interior, Nour El Din Al Baba, stated in a tweet on his official account on the platform «X», on Monday: Some platforms circulated false news claiming an incident targeting President Ahmad Al-Shara and a number of leadership figures, accompanied by forged statements falsely attributed to official entities.
The spokesperson for «Syrian Interior» added: We categorically deny these claims in detail, and we appeal to citizens, and all media outlets, to verify accuracy and responsibility, and not to source news except from approved official sources.
On the other hand, the Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that negotiations between Syria and Israel facilitated by the United States resumed after a hiatus of several months, during which Damascus seeks the withdrawal of Israeli forces from lands it controlled following the fall of Bashar Al-Assad.
The agency quoted a government source saying that the Syrian government delegation is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan Al-Sheibani, and the Head of General Intelligence, Hussein Al-Salamah, adding that the resumption of the negotiations «affirms Syria's unwavering commitment to the restoration of non-negotiable national rights».
According to the source, the discussions are mainly focused on reactivating the 1974 disengagement agreement, which led to the establishment of a UN-monitored buffer zone between Israel and Syria following the 1973 war.
Israeli forces moved deeper across the border after the ousting of Assad on December 8, 2024. Israel also intervened by claiming to carry out missions to protect the Druze minority in southwest Syria.
Syria seeks an Israeli withdrawal to positions where forces were stationed before the overthrow of Assad, and also desires, as SANA reported from the source, "an equitable security agreement that places full Syrian sovereignty above all else, and ensures prevention of any form of interference in Syria's internal affairs".
